Office PictureMemoirs and Biographies

The women's liberation movement knew that the personal is political.

We understood that how we lived our personal lives was deeply intertwined with our political lives as well.

Through consciousness raising groups organized by the CWLU, women shared their life stories and learned how complex and profound this interrelationship is.

What follow are real life stories from former CWLU members and friends. Some of these memoirs are highly personal and we share them in spirit of the original consciousness raising groups.

We have divided our memoirs and biographies into three sections based on how they are presented.

Text Memoirs - Our text memoirs come from a variety of sources. Some are reproduced from previously published material. Some are transcripts of speeches. Some are written specifically for this section. Others are developed from interviews conducted by researchers and journalists.

Audio Memoirs -
Our audio memoirs are generally excerpted from radio shows and videotapes. You will need Quicktime on your computer to listen. Available here.

Video Memoirs -
Our video memoirs are usually clips taken from archival or documentary sources. You will need Quicktime on your computer to listen. Available here.
